Author thoughts to practice

When I first started writing Catchlight, I was so freaked out by what I was attempting to do that I couldn’t admit even to myself that I was writing a novel.

I told myself, I’m writing this thing that could one day maybe possibly be a novel, someday.

LOL.

I have studied and read and changed a LOT since then, and one skill I’ve developed is choosing (or at least being aware of) my thoughts.

What you think drives a lot of what you feel, what you do, and the results you create. (Learn more from coach Brooke Castillo about her thought model, if you’re curious.)

Here are some of my favorite author thoughts to think. Happy practicing. ;)

I’m here to serve the work.

There’s no such thing as writing myself into a corner.

There’s no such thing as writer’s block.

There are a million ways to get unstuck.

I’ve turned pro.

My voice matters. My story matters.

I am committed to this book.

Of course people want to hear what I have to say.

I won’t stop until I get it right. Until I know in my bones that I’ve written the absolute best book that I’m capable of writing.

I’m proud of my work.

I own my own genius.

When my book is published… [not ‘if’].

Everything is material.

My book already exists somewhere in its best possible form. All I need to do is chip away at what isn’t the book to reveal what is.

Which thoughts do you want to try on?
