write the brave book that’s inside you

The Writing Brave Mastermind

is a six-month potent group coaching program designed to build your writing skills & confidence so that you can channel the book that wants to be written… with power & ease.

“My book wouldn’t exist without Brooke.”

Kelli Thompson, author of Closing the Confidence Gap

“I got sick of putting ‘write a book’ on my New Year’s goals every single year. I got tired of my own excuses, so I joined Brooke’s Writing Brave Mastermind. The monthly deadline of having to submit work for review is, on its own, worth the price of admission. My book wouldn’t exist without Brooke.”

“I’m a writer. I claimed that space.”

Roisín Fegan

“I feel a part of myself coming alive again, a part of myself that I feel has been missing. I didn't have the confidence necessarily to say things out loud or speak my truth, as so many people struggle with. Going through it as an author experience for me, it's helped me to connect with the depths of my own thoughts. As a writer, I've definitely evolved in the sense of just even thinking of myself as a writer, that first rudimentary step. It's this unquestioning now - it’s what I do. It's one of my passions. I'm a writer. I'm still everything else, but I claimed that space.”

“Brooke’s approach is really something special.”

Dr. Kara Pepper

“There’s all kinds of places that teach you how to write a book. But the thing that makes the Writing Brave Mastermind really special is the energy and care and gentleness that Brooke bring to the process.

I love her work around the energetics - that’s what feels right to me. It’s really something special.”

The world needs you to write brave.

The tide of the planet is turning, and we need visionaries like you to write the books that will help us change the course of the future.

The world needs your stories.

Whether you’re writing norm-bending romance, trauma-healing memoir, dark fantasy, soul-centered self-help, magical YA fiction, or something else… we need your voice.

I believe that with every fiber of my being.

And you don’t have to go it alone.

The mythos of the isolated writer locked alone in a tower room is a thing of the past.

The way of the future is the vibrant creative who’s part of an interdependent community.

The Writing Brave Mastermind curriculum is…

Flexible

I approach teaching craft tools like providing you with a giant bin of Legos. We’re not building a one-kit-makes-one-model set over here. Rather than being locked into a 15-beat structure, you’ll get a bin of crucial “pieces” you can mix and match to “build” (write) anything you can dream up. Pantsers: this is for you.

Finely honed

I’ve taught the Writing Brave Mastermind four times since its inception in 2021, to dozens of writers. I’ve honed the curriculum, lessons, and pacing in every iteration. Join cohort five and benefit from my 24 months of experience teaching this material.

Intuitively inspired

My mastermind clients and I are highly sensitive people. We see things other people don’t see; we know things that are strange for us to know. We know that the books coming through us have an intelligence of their own.

Technically rooted

I have a Masters of Fine Arts degree in creative writing, and so do my two mastermind editors. All three of us are practicing writers, with multiple publications and awards to our names. We’re continually honing our craft so we can help you hone yours.

Hey there!

I’m Brooke Adams Law: award-winning author, book coach, and CEO of Writing Brave Press.

I started the Writing Brave Mastermind in 2021. I’ve worked with dozens of writers through the mastermind; the program works and gets results. The only question is: is the mastermind (and am I) a good match for you?

My debut novel Catchlight was chosen as the winner of the Fairfield Book Prize, named a Best Indie Book of 2020 by Kirkus Reviews, and featured on Good Morning America’s blog. Here’s what you might not know: it took me seven years to write it, and six additional years to get it published. (I was relentless.)

I’ve hosted virtual summits attended (and loved) by thousands of writers. I’ve spoken at virtual events, been a guest on numerous podcasts, taught lectures to college students, and led workshops about writing.

I’m raising two small kids, run a business, and still make time to write every morning (and love it). My second novel is almost finished, and I know it’s good - and will get better.

I want to teach you how to do that.

Let’s go.

“It feels like an investment in my future as a writer.”

Lacie Braun

“With the investment, there was no space for not showing up in my mind. Having a meeting of one hour a week was so helpful. It kept me in the space. It kept me connected to the cohort. … I felt really supported. I feel like I could go through [the content] three more times and still not get everything out of it. It feels like a big investment in my future as a writer because I get to revisit it all whenever I want or need to.”

“This process was just eye-opening and life-altering.”

Andrea McCaskey

“What really made me join the Writing Brave Mastermind was that Brooke designed the program intentionally so we could listen to ourselves and see what book wanted to be written and what words wanted to be put on the page. And that for me was just eye-opening and life-altering. I just listen to the book. It tells me what needs to be written.

Here’s what you get…

Writing Brave Mastermind kicks off the week of January 6, 2025, for six months. Here’s what’s included:

A finely-honed, live-taught curriculum

We meet live weekly from January to June and I teach lessons every week on the four pillars of Writing Brave

  • Practice: Create a writing routine that works for you in your current season of life. Develop the skills to adjust and adapt when life throws you a curveball.

  • Craft: Build your writing craft toolkit. Lessons are tailored to the writers in the room, per their request & their editors’ feedback. Past lessons have included: writing evocative scenes; creating powerful settings; the art of revision; writing flashback; creating interesting metaphors; developing your unique style; and more.

  • Mindset: Learn how to think like a writer and develop a writer’s habits of mind. Practice claiming your author identity.

  • Intuition: Build your emotional capacity as a writer. Learn to “take direction” from the creative force. Hone the skill of collaborating with the spirit of your book.

Access *even more* writing exercises and resources on the course portal, which will also house weekly recordings.

Game-changing 1:1 Editorial Feedback

The single thing that will quickly move the needle toward your best writing is personalized feedback on your writing.

My mastermind editors both have MFAs and are equipped to give feedback on craft elements like how to…

  • Increase tension in a scene

  • Write more impactful, natural-sounding dialogue

  • Infuse both the “voice of innocence” and the “voice of experience” into your work (if you’re writing memoir)

  • Develop interesting, memorable characters (if you’re writing fiction)

  • Tell vulnerable stories and communicate information clearly (if you’re writing self-help)

They’re both trauma-informed and give feedback clearly and with compassion.

Once a month, you’ll:

  • Submit an excerpt from your work (up to 5,000 words)

  • Receive an in-depth editorial letter (often 2-3 pages, double spaced)

  • Connect 1:1 with your editor for a 45-minute private session to talk next steps

An Intimate “Circle of Becoming”

Being part of an intimate writing community can change your brain chemistry: it builds “mirror neurons” so that your brain begins to know, with even more power, that you are a writer.

My clients use words like “potent,” “supportive,” and “incredible” to describe their mastermind cohorts. My client Lacie recently said, “I feel like I will keep the connections that I built long-term… we’re all talking about flying to each other’s book signings one day.”

A Magical 2-Day Virtual Writing Retreat

Past guests have included an indigenous medicine woman (who performed an opening ceremony and did an oracle card reading for every person present) and an artist and yoga teacher (who offered both yoga and a hands-on art collage experience).

Plus, we dig into healing creative wounds, making room for our author selves, and generating a lot of new work.

Hear what my clients have to say…

From wanting me to charge them more money, to loving the whole-body approach to writing, to the potency of community, here’s what my clients loved about the Writing Brave Mastermind…

“I felt like I was in a college-level course.”

Dr. Errin Weisman

Brooke practices narrative medicine. Another members of the Writing Brave Mastermind told me, ‘This is the best writing group ever.’ Other people in our business group are doing another writing course and we look at each other and say, ‘Ours is best.’ I love Brooke’s live teaching, I seriously feel like I am in a college-level course learning things I didn’t know. She needs to raise her prices!”

“The mastermind teaches whole body writing.”

Ellena Munoz

“What I loved most about the Writing Brave Mastermind was that Brooke teaches more than just the mechanics of writing. She teaches whole body writing. It’s like when people work on their physical health but forget about their mental health or spiritual health - it doesn’t work. We need that complete, holistic picture. In Writing Brave, we’re writing from ALL the places.

“Being able to celebrate each other’s wins was so impactful.”

Tam Orlando

Knowing that you’re not journeying alone is very potent. Seeing fellow writers on the group call every week putting so much love and energy into their own books, gave me so much permission to step into my own author identity. Being able to share that energy, celebrate each other’s wins and hold each other high was so impactful.”

Think of The Writing Brave Mastermind as my witchy answer to a traditional MFA.

You get:

➡️ Weekly practice grounding into your body and listening to the spirit of your book

➡️ Craft lessons taught like building blocks that you can integrate into your writing at any stage of the writing process

➡️ An intimate community that will be collaborative and co-creative, rather than competitive

➡️Psychology-rooted mindset tools to program your brain with author habits of mind

Plus, you won’t have to deal with…

❌ Hours of classwork per week for two years

❌ Tens of thousands of dollars in tuition

❌ Tons of time spent reading fellow students’ work (no workshopping here!)

❌ Eight conflicting opinions about your writing (I repeat: no workshopping here!)

And if you’ve ever felt frustrated by programs that told you to…

  • Follow one specific writing process that didn’t quite fit you or your book…

  • Plot according to an ironclad 15-beat structure that felt like a straitjacket for your story…

  • Decide a bunch of things about your book ahead of time that you immediately changed upon sitting down to write…

Then I created the Writing Brave Mastermind for you.

I created the loose framework for writing a book that I teach in Writing Brave Mastermind because my own writing process doesn’t fit the mold.

I can’t plot ahead of time. I can’t decide a bunch of things ahead of time. But I still want to write brave.

I write very much like a musician who plays by ear. I sit down and “hear” something from my book, then write it down.

(This is true for both my fiction and my nonfiction, by the way.)

So if you’ve ever felt like there’s something wrong with you because you can’t seem to follow the traditional writing advice on the internet (particularly if that advice is to “plotters” instead of “pantsers”), then you’re welcome here.

There’s nothing wrong with you.

You just need to approach writing in a different way.

Let’s do it.

The weekly calls felt like a pleasurable escape to an exclusive club, where we learned sacred rituals and skills to draw out our stories from the heart space.”

-Kathy Donnelly

I loved learning all the behind-the-scenes elements of writing a book, embracing my author identity, being guided by Brooke, and being in a community with wise women on similar journeys.”

-Jeni Rogers

This is NOT a hurry-up-and-finish, “write your book in six months” course.

We are here to unlearn all that patriarchal bullshit.

We aren’t here to punch out a book as fast as possible and cross it off your bucket list and move on to the next to-do item.

We are here because we long to write words that matter.

We want to show up vulnerable on the page, dig deep and write brave.

Because that’s what touches hearts and changes lives.

Because that’s what our hearts long for.

We are here to rediscover our own intuitive, creative magic. To collaborate with the spirit of our books. And ultimately, to write something we are unbelievably proud of.

Ready to take this six-month journey into the heart of your book?

Here are 6 more ways that Writing Brave Mastermind is Different…

1.

MOST writing courses focus on just TWO stages of writing a book:

How to draft and how to revise. The Writing Brave Mastermind will help you navigate all the way from the early dreaming stages through publishing and beyond, with inspiration and without burnout.

2.

You will *only* receive feedback from my team of highly skilled, trauma-informed editors.

(No workshopping!) That means you don’t spend your precious time reading other people’s work, and you can be certain that the feedback you receive will quickly move the needle toward your best writing.

3.

You receive a personal, in-depth editorial letter every single month with feedback on your writing…

…which will give you detailed pointers on everything from what’s working well, what needs to shift to make your work more powerful, and exactly how to get there.

4.

You’ll experience a process that’s completely unique - because it’s yours.

Discover and deepen your own intuitive writing process. You’ll have access to all the high-level, practical writing and editing insights I learned in my MFA program, plus activations and somatic exercises that will help you to channel ever deeper.

5.

You’ll get access to insider publishing industry secrets.

Most book coaches or writing programs have an agenda when it comes to publishing. I give you the lowdown on the three publishing pathways - with total neutrality. I’ll tell you how the money works, how the rights work, what you gain and what you lose with each pathway.

6.

You’ll join an intimate community of people cheering each other on.

This is not the competitive, cutthroat culture of some MFA programs. We have each other’s backs. We celebrate each other’s successes. And in this intimate group, you’ll be able to form relationships that might sustain your writing practice for years to come.

“Writing my book kept me sane.”

Liza Pincsak

“I really didn’t think that I would have time to participate because I traveled weekly for work. But ultimately, I decided to join to breathe life into my desire. Writing my book kept me sane… it was the best escape. And it proved to me that I do have the time.”

“Brooke’s wisdom exceeded my expectations.”

Nadia Ahrens

“I loved my experience in the Writing Brave Mastermind. Brooke’s wisdom, knowledge and breadth of field exceeded my expectations. She helped me understand my writing process and trust it. There is so much valuable information in the course portal as well. Brooke is an amazing soul and teacher and I’m grateful to her for sharing her light.

“What I can eagerly share about taking Brooke’s Writing Brave Mastermind is that it made me believe that I can put words on a page and that I should, for no other reason than doing so makes me come alive and feel at home with myself. It confirmed for me that not writing was blocking a key part of who I am. I was stifling my author identity, and will do so no more. "

-Colleen Krystyniak

Brooke was my book coach-therapist-whisperer. She reminded me to trust my intuition and bring the words inside me onto paper. She helped my book dreams become reality and provided the guidance, support and love to keep going."

-Kelli Thompson

Ready to take this six-month journey into the heart of your book?

Got Q’s? I’ve got A’s!

When does it begin, and when will the group meet?

The mastermind will officially begin the week of January 6, 2025. We’ll choose a time via an availability survey in December. It will likely be a weekday afternoon, Eastern time.

What if I can’t make the live time?

I want you to make as many live sessions as possible, and it’s important to me that we work to find a time that works for everyone. That said, I can’t guarantee that the time we choose will work for everyone, especially if you have an inflexible daytime schedule.

Note that all calls are recorded and posted to the course portal. I have had clients in the past who couldn’t attend live, who still got a lot out of the course.

Who is a good fit for the mastermind?

If you identify as intuitive and you’re writing (or want to write) a memoir, novel, or personal development / self help book, you’re a great fit.

When and where is the mastermind happening?

We’ll meet once a week on Zoom for one hour.

When is the virtual retreat happening?

The 2-day virtual retreat will be scheduled for winter or spring 2025, dates chosen by availability survey.

How much time will I need to set aside for the mastermind?

Minimally, the commitment is one hour a week for six months. (I very rarely give homework or require prep for these group calls.)

You also have the opportunity to submit up to 5,000 words per month for review and feedback - so factor in writing time. Plus, your monthly 45-minute session with your editor.

Daily live writing time is optional (you can attend that time every day, once a week, on occasion, or not at all).
