my favorite books of 2024

I read a lot of good books in 2024.

Here are a few of my favorites:

The entire Winter Street series by Elin Hilderbrand - I loved this series SO MUCH, I read all four books in about a week.

I listened to the audiobook of Ina Garten’s memoir, Be Ready When the Luck Happens, and I adored it. I knew virtually nothing about her before this book and I just loved hearing her story.

What’s Next: A Backstage Pass to The West Wing, Its Cast and Crew, and Its Enduring Legacy of Service, by Melissa Fitzgerald and Mary McCormack. I’m a huge West Wing nerd and I adored this book.

The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, by Sangu Mandanna. I adored this one.

Lisa Lutz’s series The Spellman Files. So funny and entertaining.

We Solve Murders, by Richard Osman. I will forever adore The Thursday Murder Club characters, but this new book was also really enjoyable.

Mirrored Heavens, by Rebecca Roanhorse. If you like fantasy and haven’t read this series yet, which starts with Black Sun, get ye to the library or a bookstore and dive in. They are EXCELLENT.

The Bodyguard, by Katherine Center. I’ve read five of Center’s books this year and this one was my favorite.

I’m Your Guy, by Sarina Bowen. One of the first queer romances I read and I LOVED it.

Check & Mate, by Ali Hazelwood. I’ve read a bunch of her books this year and this one, which is a YA romance about chess players, was my favorite. It’s less steamy than her other books (it’s YA), but it was sooo good.

The Caphenon, by Fletcher DeLancey. SUCH GOOD sci-fi.

Here’s my mini soapbox about buying books:

Don’t buy from Amazon, even though it’s a little cheaper. Amazon sells books at a loss so it can undercut brick-and-mortar bookstores and indie bookstores; it wants to eliminate its competition and corner the market. Get books from the library or buy from your local bookstore. These links point to Bookshop.org, which fulfills orders from local bookstores. I make the tiniest commission if you purchase from one of my links (at no cost to you).

Happy reading!
